In India, across various states, there are several vocational training centers; these are inclusive of the government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-run Industrial Training Centers (ITCs). The skill-based training centers were started in accordance with the Craftsmen Scheme that was introduced during the 1950s by the Union Government of India. The primary objective of constituting these training centers was to provide a skilled workforce to companies; the industries were facing a shortage of competent manpower.

The National Council for Vocational Training is the body that is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the trade courses. Through the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT), the NCVT implements structured policies in the different states. The aspirants can enroll in a variety of engineering and non-engineering trade courses, as per their interests.

Though, they must keep in mind that the eligibility criteria of the different courses are known to vary. Thus, they must read the eligibility norms carefully and apply only if found to be eligible for the respective courses.

After the application process is completed, the respective states conduct entrance exams, only the eligible candidates are permitted to appear for the respective tests. Also, the candidates are required to produce their admit cards to the concerned authorities at the exam centers.

The admit cards are downloadable from NCVT’s official website www.ncvtmis.gov.in. Alternatively, the site, https://www.ncvtiti.in/ can be visited for accessing the admit cards and other related information of the vocational trade courses. Only those candidates who successfully clear the entrance exams are called for further rounds of interviews, based on which they are given admission.
