The Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship manages the administrative affairs of the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in India’s Goa state. As per the Craftsmen Scheme that was introduced in the year 1950, the training centers were set up by the Government of India to provide technical knowledge to the aspirants.
The ITIs are affiliated with the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) of the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), Ministry of Labour, New Delhi. The guidelines for the syllabus and curriculum of the programs are approved by the Union Government after consultation with the NCVT.
Every year, a large percentage of candidates apply for admission for technical courses in the ITIs. Many aspirants are interested in gaining technical know-how rather than continuing with school studies, and thus, join the ITIs for the required training. Due to the shortage of skilled persons in the varied industries, the training centers were formed. The candidates have a plethora of engineering and non-engineering trades to choose from, for improving their career prospects and earning their livelihood.
