The state of Meghalaya is traceable to the Northeastern part of India; Shillong is the state’s capital city. In the state, the Directorate of Employment & Craftsmen Training (DECT) is responsible for 2 functions in the field of vocational training: Employment Services and Training Services. The Employment Services are conducted through the District Employment Exchanges (10 in number) and Sub-Divisional Employment Exchanges (2). The state has 10 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across 11 districts as part of DECT’s Training Services.
As part of the Employment Wing of DECT, there is coordination between the industries and skilled labor to bridge the shortage of skilled manpower. Moreover, the job prospects of the aspirants are enhanced through vocational training. There are several engineering and non-engineering trades that can be applied for at the ITIs. Depending on their career interests and the courses’ eligibility criteria, the candidates can apply for enrollment in the various trade programs.
The Training Wing is concerned with developing the skills of the job seekers, through the required training, to increase the employability of the job seekers – as per the chosen trades.
Meghalaya
The vocational courses are conducted via 4 semesters i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ones.
